Elle Terms of Service

Effective date: October 9, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and RMJ Labs, Inc. ("RMJ Labs," "we," "us") and govern your use of Elle, including our website, apps, and text messaging service (together, the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the Services.

1. Who we are

Elle is an AI assistant built and operated by RMJ Labs. Legal services available through Elle are provided by an independent law firm (the "Firm"), whose attorneys are licensed to practice law. The Firm is identified by name in its Client Terms, which you'll be asked to accept before the Firm provides any services to you.

2. RMJ Labs is not a law firm

RMJ Labs is a technology company. It does not practice law, does not provide legal advice, and does not control the Firm's legal advice or professional judgment, which belong solely to the Firm's attorneys. RMJ Labs provides technology and operational support to the Firm. Nothing in these Terms creates an attorney-client relationship between you and RMJ Labs.

3. Browsing does not make you a client

Visiting our website or reading our blog, guides, or other public content does not create an attorney-client relationship with anyone. Public content is general information, not legal advice. It may not reflect the law in your state or recent changes, and you shouldn't act on it without advice about your situation.

4. Elle and artificial intelligence

Elle uses artificial intelligence to understand your questions and respond. Please keep in mind:

  • General information, not legal advice. Elle's responses are general legal information. Legal advice comes only from a licensed attorney and is labeled with the attorney's name.
  • AI can be wrong. Elle may misunderstand you, leave things out, or state something incorrectly. Don't rely on Elle's general information for an important decision without confirming it with an attorney.
  • Deadlines are your responsibility unless an attorney has agreed in writing to handle a matter for you. If Elle mentions a deadline, treat it as a prompt to act, not a guarantee that it's correct or complete.
  • No automated legal decisions. Decisions with legal effect for you, such as whether to take your matter or what to advise, are made by attorneys, not by Elle alone.

5. Client Terms and engagement agreements

When you begin using Elle, you'll be asked to accept the Firm's Client Terms. Elle is an AI assistant, not a lawyer. Once you accept the Client Terms, what you share with Elle is shared with the Firm in confidence, and is intended to be protected by attorney-client privilege, as described in the Client Terms. The Firm represents you in a specific matter only after you agree to it, and charges a fee only under a written agreement that states the fee. If the Client Terms or any engagement or fee agreement conflict with these Terms, those agreements control.

6. Where we can help, and referrals

The Firm can provide legal advice and services only where its attorneys are licensed or otherwise permitted to practice. For other matters, Elle may provide general information and offer to refer you to an independent attorney or law firm. You choose whether to accept a referral and which lawyer to hire. Referred lawyers are responsible for their own services. If the Firm will share in a referred lawyer's fee, it will tell you each firm's share and get your written consent first, and the arrangement will not increase the total fee you pay.

7. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old, able to form a binding contract, and located in the United States to use the Services. You may use the Services only for yourself, or for someone else if you have legal authority to act for them (for example, as a parent, guardian, or agent under a power of attorney). The Services are not available where prohibited by law.

8. Your account and security

You may need to verify your phone number or create an account. You agree to give accurate information and keep it up to date. You're responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your phone, email, and login secure. Tell us right away at support@useandco.com if you think someone else has accessed your account. Letting others use your phone or account, or sharing your Elle conversations, may expose confidential information and may cause attorney-client privilege to be lost.

9. Electronic communications and signatures

You agree to receive notices, agreements, and other communications from RMJ Labs and the Firm electronically, by text, email, or within the Services, and that these satisfy any legal requirement that they be in writing. You agree that tapping "Agree," checking a box, or signing electronically is your legally binding signature. You can request a paper copy of any agreement you signed by emailing support@useandco.com. You can withdraw consent to electronic communications by closing your account, which may end your ability to use the Services.

10. Text messaging program

  • Program description: Elle sends and receives text messages about your legal questions, documents, and matters, including automated messages.
  • Consent: by texting Elle or giving us your mobile number and agreeing to these Terms, you consent to receive these messages, including automated messages, at that number. Consent is not a condition of purchasing any goods or services.
  • Message frequency varies based on your conversations and matters.
  • Message and data rates may apply.
  • Opt out: reply STOP at any time. You'll receive one confirmation message and no further messages. Opting out ends Elle's text service; the Firm will still contact you by other means about any open matter.
  • Help: reply HELP or email support@useandco.com.
  • Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
  • Your number: if you change or give up your mobile number, tell us right away so messages don't reach someone else.

The Privacy Policy explains how we handle mobile information. We do not share mobile numbers or text messaging consent with third parties for their marketing purposes.

11. Fees and payments

Using Elle for general information is free. Some legal services from the Firm are also free, as described when offered. Any fee for legal services is charged by the Firm, not RMJ Labs, and only under a written agreement with the Firm that states the fee before the work begins. Payments are processed by third-party payment processors. Advance payments for legal services are handled under the rules governing lawyers' trust accounts. Refunds, if any, are governed by your agreement with the Firm and applicable professional rules.

12. Calls and recordings

Elle, the Firm, or our support team may call you or receive calls from you, including calls placed or answered by automated or AI-generated voice. We may record and transcribe calls for quality, accuracy, and record-keeping. By using the Services, you consent to this. If you don't want a call recorded, tell us at the start of the call and we'll offer another way to communicate.

13. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Services for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose, or to plan or carry out harm to anyone;
  • submit false or misleading information, or impersonate any person;
  • submit content you don't have the right to share, including information obtained unlawfully or in breach of someone else's confidentiality or privilege;
  • harass, threaten, or abuse anyone, including attorneys and staff, or submit content that is defamatory, obscene, or hateful;
  • try to make Elle produce harmful content or get around its safeguards;
  • access or try to access accounts, systems, or data you're not authorized to access, or interfere with security features;
  • upload viruses or other malicious code, or overload or disrupt the Services;
  • scrape, copy, frame, or mirror the Services, or use automated tools to access them without our written permission;
  • reverse engineer the Services or use them to build a competing product; or
  • remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notice.

We may suspend or end your access for any violation. The Firm will handle any open matter consistent with its professional obligations.

14. Your content

You keep ownership of the messages, documents, photos, and recordings you submit ("Your Content"). You give RMJ Labs and the Firm a limited license to store, copy, process, and transmit Your Content only as needed to provide the Services to you, as described in the Privacy Policy. Your Content is not treated as public or non-confidential. We don't use Your Content to train AI models, and we require our AI providers not to use it for training. You confirm that you have the right to submit Your Content and that doing so doesn't violate anyone else's rights.

15. Feedback

If you send us suggestions or ideas about the Services (not your legal matter), we may use them without obligation to you.

16. Our rights and your license

The Services, including Elle, our software, website content, and the Elle name and logo, are owned by RMJ Labs or its licensors and protected by intellectual property laws. We give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Services for your own use under these Terms. No other rights are granted. Documents prepared for you by the Firm are yours to use for your own matter.

17. Copyright complaints

If you believe content on the Services infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent at legal@useandco.com, including: your contact information; a description of the copyrighted work; where the material appears on the Services; a statement that you believe in good faith the use is unauthorized; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and you're authorized to act; and your physical or electronic signature. We may remove material and end the accounts of repeat infringers.

18. Third-party services, links, and beta features

The Services may link to or rely on third-party services, such as e-signature, payment, scheduling, or mapping tools. We don't control and aren't responsible for them, and their own terms and privacy policies apply. Links don't imply endorsement. We may offer features labeled beta, preview, or experimental. They may change or be discontinued and may not work as expected.

19. Attorney advertising

This website and Elle may be considered attorney advertising. Choosing a lawyer is an important decision and shouldn't be based on advertising alone. Before you decide, you may ask for free written information about the Firm's attorneys and their qualifications. No representation is made that any attorney is a certified specialist or expert in any area of law, or that the quality of legal services is greater than that of other lawyers. Every matter is different, and past results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Fees, where charged, are negotiable and not set by law. Matters may be handled together with, or referred to, other law firms, and fees may be shared with your written consent. Services are not available in all states. Responsible attorney and office: [name, Firm, address].

20. Accessibility

We want the Services to be usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. If you have trouble using any part of the Services, contact us at support@useandco.com and we'll help you get the information or service you need another way.

21. Not medical, financial, or tax advice

Elle may discuss matters that involve your health, injuries, finances, or taxes. That information is not medical, financial, or tax advice. Always consult a doctor about medical conditions and treatment, and never delay seeking medical care because of anything you read or hear through the Services. In an emergency, call 911.

22. Laws vary, and deadlines matter

The law differs from state to state and changes over time. General information may not apply to your situation or your state. Many legal claims have strict deadlines, such as statutes of limitations, notice requirements for claims against government bodies, and contract or insurance deadlines, some as short as a few months. Missing one can end your claim. If you think you have a legal problem, act promptly.

23. Disclaimers

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICES' TECHNOLOGY, WEBSITE CONTENT, AND GENERAL INFORMATION ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." RMJ LABS DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND DOES NOT PROMISE THAT THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE. Elle is not monitored around the clock and is not for emergencies.

24. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, RMJ LABS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS OR DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES. RMJ LABS' TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICES WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF $100 OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID RMJ LABS IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM.

Nothing in these Terms limits the Firm's professional responsibility or liability to its clients for legal services, and nothing limits any liability that cannot be limited by law. Some states don't allow certain disclaimers or limits, so some of the above may not apply to you.

25. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify RMJ Labs from third-party claims, and related reasonable costs, caused by your violation of these Terms, your misuse of the Services, or Your Content's violation of someone else's rights. This section does not apply to claims about legal services provided by the Firm.

26. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at legal@useandco.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally. Any dispute that isn't resolved will be decided by the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction, unless the law gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere. Concerns about an attorney's conduct may also be raised with the attorney disciplinary authority in the state where the attorney is licensed.

27. Termination and changes

You may stop using the Services at any time. We may suspend, change, or discontinue all or part of the Services, or your access, at any time, including for violations of these Terms. Sections 14 through 26 and 28 survive. The Firm's obligations to you on open or past matters continue under its agreements with you and the rules of professional conduct.

We may update these Terms. We'll post the updated Terms with a new effective date and, for material changes, notify you by text, email, or in the Services before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the update.

28. General

These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any agreements you enter into with the Firm are the entire agreement about the Services, but these Terms do not replace or limit any agreement governing your attorney-client relationship with the Firm. If any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the Firm's professional obligations regarding client files. We aren't responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. The Firm may rely on and enforce the provisions of these Terms that protect it. The Services are operated from the United States and intended for use only within the United States.
